Resume Tip: Get Rid of Fluff

Recruiters go through hundreds of resumes. When they all sound the same, it’s easy for them to become a blur.

An easy way to make yours stand out: remove all the fluff and get to the point!

Instead of “I’m seeking a job/career/position” create a personal branding statement. Recruiters already know you’re seeking a hob they posted.

Get rid of “references upon request”. This phrase is redundant as employers understand it as a given.

Don’t use overused phrases – instead, get specific and creative. These overused terms include the following:

  • detail-oriented
  • team player
  • strong work ethic
  • experienced
  • duties

Instead, show proof of these qualities by highlighting actual accomplishments and results.
